The process of turfing starts with preparing the ground by clearing weeds, debris, and any existing vegetation, followed by loosening the soil to improve drainage and aeration. The area is then leveled and graded to ensure a smooth surface and proper runoff. A layer of topsoil is spread and raked evenly to create a fertile base for the turf. Rolls of fresh turf are laid in a staggered brick-like pattern, ensuring the edges fit tightly together to prevent gaps. Each roll is pressed down gently to ensure good contact with the soil, and joints are filled with fine soil if needed. After laying, the turf is watered thoroughly to promote root establishment, and ongoing maintenance includes regular watering, mowing, and avoiding heavy foot traffic until the turf is fully rooted.
